The 2006 It List

by Charles Runnette

Been to Belize? Already heard the buzz about Búzios? Dubious about Dubai? Ah, no wonder: Those places are over, at least according to some travelers—usually the same types who are calling black the new black. We'll admit that the annual proclamation of must-go places can get bewildering. (Yunnan, China, is this year's Mongolia, which was last year's Chiang Mai, which took over from Bhutan…) But there's still merit in being in the vanguard—the thrill of eating food not tailored to gringo tastes, of being the first-last-and-only person on the beach, of reporting back, "We were the only Americans!" Besides, if you're too far behind the curve, you'll find yourself jostling elbows with the Fodor's-toting socks-and-sandals set. Fear not: is always scouting, and we have put together the ultimate "It" list for 2006. Don't panic if you're still trying to book that first trip to Paris or Oahu—but you might consider Dominica for a weekend in-between. So, the official reveal: Here are the places that will get everyone talking, and packing, this year.
