The flush: Sketch, London, United Kingdom

The lowdown: Eight huge gleaming white eggs sit at the top of a sweeping futuristic staircase at London's Sketch restaurant and bar, like an offering from a giant chicken. You'd be forgiven for thinking they were art installations, but no, they're actually toilet cubicles (four for men, four for women). Inside, the shell is an all-white minimalistic bathroom; outside the cubicles are fancy period washbasins, which is pretty much the approach to the whole place (think rococo meets sci-fi). The plan for the now infamous Sketch located in Mayfair—a center for food, art, and music housed in a converted 18th-century town house—was hatched by chef Pierre Gagnaire and restaurateur Mourad Mazouz (of Momo restaurant fame). It has been a playground for the stylish, the beautiful, and—failing that—the rich, since it opened back in 2002. While the shimmering, crystal-covered bathrooms off the restaurant are pretty stunning, it's the egg pods we like best. This is style, over easy.
