Roadside attraction: Located along the old Route 66, this classic roadside stop consists of ten vintage Cadillacs half-buried nose-first in the Texas dirt (supposedly at the same angle as the Great Pyramid of Giza). The project, created in 1974 by the San Francisco art collective Ant Farm with Amarillo billionaire Stanley Marsh 3, has been immortalized in everything from a Bruce Springsteen song to the Disney Pixar movie Cars.

Should you stop? Most roadside attractions are static, look-don't-touch relics. But what's special about Cadillac Ranch is that it's constantly evolving. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from all around the world come bearing spray paint to leave their Technicolor mark on the cars. So the paint job the first time you come will be completely different if you return even a week later.
