MINNESOTA: Mahnomin Porridge

Hail Mahnomin porridge, King of Hot Cereals! This is a mighty breakfast dish that Hell's Kitchen chef and owner Mitch Omer created by studying the food culture of Cree Indians and then incorporating native Minnesota wild rice. The stout, maximum-flavor rice is mixed with blueberries, cranberries, and hazelnuts, and is then wetted with maple syrup and cream. A caveat about recommending it is that you probably won't have room for Chef Mitch's lemon ricotta hotcakes, toasted bison sausage bread, or ham-and-pear-crisp sandwich. Aside from the great food, it is a delight just being in this colorful place, which is wildly creative and cheeky, like dining in the kitchen of a very eccentric aunt (who happens to be a gifted cook).
