FLYING FISH
Like beer on a hot day, graphics and sport have always made a good mix. For a sophisticated take, see this six-foot-two-inch surfboard (an easy ride in most conditions) by Manhattan-based photographer Dirk Westphal, who laminates color-saturated prints on handcrafted epoxy boards. (Would you use it in real life? Says Westphal, "I liken it to a fancy sports car: You could, but why would you?") Meanwhile, Prolific California-based wave painter Drew Brophy lends images of his signature angry fish and surreal seas to a more accessible skim board. Constructed of lightweight fiberglass with a high-density foam core, you slide it on the sand as the surf rolls in. Either way, when you get back on solid ground, the beer will be waiting.
