SPEAK TO ME
Perfect For: The Bad Navigator
Traffic is murder on the 405, you have to return the rental car, and you have no idea how to get to LAX on the surface roads. Your phone to the rescue, though you won't have to actually call anybody for directions. The latest BlackBerry Pearl has a built-in GPS system, which gives turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions (and it doesn't sound like your back-seat-driving mother-in-law, either). Of course it also has all the standard BlackBerry gee-whiz features, including e-mail, organizer, and MP3 player. And it's so small that it even fits in tiny clutches or jeans pockets. Our only complaint? We wish all BlackBerrys worked internationally. This one is limited to stateside use.
Blackberry Pearl 8130, $420–$499
