Celebrate Christmas: What better way to celebrate than by getting soused? Arrive early for a sunset drink at the bar in the Firefly restaurant, in the hotel of the same name. We recommend the "Barfly," a concoction of rum, nutmeg, papaya, and coconut cream—it's addictive. Liz Hurley, Iman, and David Bowie are fans of the hotel (and, maybe, the drink).

Celebrate New Year's: Everyone—from Mick to the local fisherman—ends up at Basil's Bar at some point, whether they remember it or not. It's very casual, and the fare—burgers and grilled lobster—is good. Fun it is; cheap it isn't.

Stay in style: There are scores of private villas on the island's secluded 1,400 acres, Mick Jagger's among them. Properties offer two to nine bedrooms in styles ranging from Balinese to Moroccan, and many can be rented from the Mustique Company—from about $4,000 per week to sky's-the-limit.
