The trimmings: All around the Phoenix metro area you'll find palm trees wrapped in white Christmas lights, but no part of the valley does up the holiday better than downtown Glendale. Known as Glendale Glitters, 1.5 million lights illuminate 16 blocks of the town's center. In early January, the historic district ends the two-month celebration by firing up 20 hot air balloons to add even more festive lighting to the outdoor displays.
Check in: At the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, carolers rove the property, and the lobby features a six-foot-tall nutcracker that's made out of gingerbread and a four-story tree covered in LED lights.
