Winter Wonderlands

by Sherri Eisenberg

The trimmings: Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping street, is bathed in the glow of twinkling strung holiday lights throughout the month of December. For 2011, the city's decorations get even more elaborate thanks to a troupe of painted pachyderms. Before you call PETA, this Elephant Parade is made of life-size sculptures decorated by international artists to raise awareness of the plight of the Asian elephant. The sculptures were installed in November, but for the holidays they will also be lit up in Christmas lights.

Check in: Located steps away from Orchard Road, the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore is the perfect spot to take in the street's annual Christmas Light-Up. The hotel's holiday brunch is legendary, featuring fancy plates like black-truffle pork roulade and salt-crusted branzino, plus roasted chestnut stuffing, probably nothing like mom used to make.
