AMULETO
Where: Zihuatanejo, Mexico
The crowd: Mexico lovers (and simply lovers) looking for a grown-up experience far from the concrete megaresorts of Acapulco or Cancún. Zihuatanejo is a three-and-a-half-hour flight from Los Angeles.
How's the water? Perfect for reigniting passions. This tiny hotel's perch far above town and the Pacific means you'll be cut off from distractions. But it's the vista from the cliff-top infinity pool that is the most affecting: At night, the hillsides light up like a thousand votive candles. With a maximum of eleven other guests, this pocket of liquid heaven is never crowded, regardless of the hour. It never closes, either.
Poolside tipple: A mango margarita on the rocks.
The hotel: Much smaller than the resort hotels down the hill, this six-suite hideaway oozes romance with open-air palapas, outdoor showers, daybeds for two, and a small restaurant that serves delicacies like just-snagged mahi mahi or red snapper.
