Rotarius B&B, Asti, Italy

What was Rapunzel complaining about? If her tower was anything like Rotarius, a luxury suite in a 13th-century tower in the medieval center of Asti, she should never have considered leaving. The 645-square-foot room in the Roero di Monteu palace contains a king-size bed, an expertly edited collection of antique and contemporary furniture, even an upright piano. Arched windows afford panoramic views of Asti's rooftops, the Piedmontese hills, and the Alps beyond. The suite is the brainchild of architects Elisabetta Tovo and Filippo Cornero, who designed the unique space and many of the furnishings within. Tovo serves guests a breakfast of fresh bread, homemade preserves, and fruit, and she can also organize tastings of Barberas, Barolos, and other local wines; architecture tours; and in the fall, truffle hunts—plus access to a local health club and pool. All good reasons to check in and let down your hair.
