Blanket Bay, Glenorchy, New Zealand
What you see: Look familiar, Lord of the Rings fans? Blanket Bay is located just outside Glenorchy, on New Zealand's South Island, where much of Tolkien's trilogy was filmed. Floor-to-cathedral-ceiling windows guarantee epic views of Lake Wakatipu's cobalt waters shining beneath the serrated peaks of the Southern Alps . Just be warned: After snuggling up here with your own Aragorn or Arwen, dinner-and-a-movie date nights might seem a little anticlimactic.
What you get: This mountain lodge is named for the woolen blankets 19th-century pioneers here used for keeping warm; the tradition of coziness continues, with Frette linens on king-size beds, steam showers, and stone fireplaces in most of the 12 guest rooms (although body heat alone can work wonders). If you do eventually emerge from your room, you can mile-high it with a helicopter ride over glaciers, waterfalls, and stunning Milford Sound, or bike to Paradise (really—it's a valley nearby).
