BadenBaden, Germany
The entire world will have its eyes (or, more likely, TV sets) on Germany this June and July, when the Deutsch host the World Cup (we're talking soccer here and—sorry, Super Bowl fans—this is the biggest sporting event in the world). And where will all the world's paparazzi be? Camped out at the Bühlerhöhe hotel in Baden–Baden, where the English team—David Beckham included—will be staying. Coach Sven–Göran Eriksson hasn't explained why he booked his team for a month in this storied old spa town in the Black Forest. It could be because Baden–Baden has been a longtime playground of the aristrocacy (these days the English team probably applies), from Roman emperors to Russian tsars to British royals. Or maybe it's attractions like the historic racetrack, the ornate casino, the two Michelin–starred chefs? No—too many distractions for a bunch of pampered footballers. We're putting our money on its famously curative waters. Piped in from underground springs, the wasser is loaded with minerals and runs extremely hot—the locals claim that when combined with Teutonic therapeutic treatments, it will heal cardiovascular problems, metabolism issues, and respiratory complaints. If you'd like to indulge, take your medicine at establishments like the Romanesque Friedrichsbad or the tastefully modern Caracalla (pictured). Whatever the scientific promises, we bet that the prospect of sitting in a hot bath with fit, young, naked Europeans of both genders will get the heart pumping. Not to mention the slender possibility that Posh and Becks might be among them.
