FOLLOWING THE SILK ROAD IN CHINA
Submitted by Robert Cole, Jackson Heights, New York
Great Travel Moment:
As I walked from my hotel to the nearby dunes area on an early morning in April 2008, I was struck by this unique panorama. Dunhuang is on the Kumtag Desert and was an important point in the ancient Silk Road. It is also close to the famed Mogao Buddhist Caves, one of the world's great ancient artistic sites. Who would think of China as a desert destination!
