Monte Carlo, Monaco
Game on: Established in 1856, the historic Casino de Monte-Carlo is one of the world's most stunning casinos. Serious money still washes across the tables, but many people go just to soak up the Belle Époque atmosphere of crystal chandeliers, tasteful murals, and ornate architecture. A strict dress code (no shorts; jackets required after 8 pm), an entrance fee of 10, and ID requirements keep the standards from slipping too much. Chemin de fer, a baccarat variation, is perhaps the quintessential Monte Carlo game, but at a minimum of 500 a hand, it is too rich for most. Blackjack at a minimum of 10 per hand provides as many thrills—with less risk of going broke.
Inside bet: The opulent Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo next door and its Le Louis XV, a three-Michelin-star Alain Ducasse restaurant, will be happy to help you spend your winnings.
