For skiers and snowboarders who want to get first tracks but leave none, Whitepod solves the conundrum. The Swiss resort, 4,921 feet high in the Alps, some ten miles south of Montreux, recalls Woody Allen's Sleeper, with 12 futuristic geodesic dome tents designed to have no impact on the fragile glacial environment. While your luggage is whisked to your pod by snowmobile, you snowshoe up to your dome-away-from-home before settling in for wine and fondue, then scrunch under a sheepskin duvet in the woodstove-heated enclosure. (They're toasty enough to make a sleeping partner a nicety but not a necessity.) Rise to a view of Mont Blanc, a breakfast of muesli, and a day of snow sports: You can ski down Whitepod's private run or go on a snowshoeing trek. Now that's what we call sustainable.
