Wild West, luxuriously
The Resort at Paws Up under northwest Montana's Big Sky Country is superdeluxe, but still totally cowboy. In the warm months, Tent City goes up—resembling a Ralph Lauren ad, this is no less authentic for having butlers—or you can choose to stay in various enormous timber homes. Then it's your choice: Do everything as a family, or lose the kids entirely while y'all visit Spa Town, do doughnuts in an ATV, shoot clay pigeons, play golf nearby, or, of course, angle for trout. In the "Kids Corps of Discovery," meanwhile, the lil' ones are going Wild West in wagons, on horseback, or in canoes; building teepees; panning for gold near the local ghost town; or covering a docile horse called Buck in paint (every Wednesday). Togetherness means family sessions of geocaching (a treasure hunt using GPS), river rafting, Disc Golf (with Frisbees), or a nose-to-tail trail ride.
