World's Most Extravagant Trips

by Danielle Pergament

You may have sold your soul long ago, but what a comfort it is to know that you can buy it back. For $15,000, a company called Remote Lands will organize an eye-opening journey in the grandest of style. From New Delhi, you'll take a private plane to Dharmsala, where you will have tea and lunch with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at his private residence in the Tsuglakhang Complex. If that's not enough to make you feel like Richard Gere, the trip also includes a meeting with the monks of the Namgyal Monastery, a personal tour with the curator of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, and a meeting with an oracle at the Nechung monastery—who will likely predict that you're a person of great wealth. Before leaving, you will have dinner with a senior Lama. Best of all, spiritual enlightenment is partly tax-deductible: The 15 grand also includes a donation to the Dalai Lama Foundation.
