DRINK 'N' BIKE
Here's a way to avoid drinking and driving while visiting wine regions: Hop on a bike. Georgia-based Discover Adventures specializes in cycling trips through the vineyards and gently rolling hills of North Carolina's Yadkin Valley. It turns out the land here is fertile for more than just tobacco—and the wine is good enough to make you forget the region is trading one vice for another. Winemakers here also pay intimate attention to tasters—a rare quality in Napa and Sonoma. You'll cycle between 20 and 40 miles a day and spend nights at a converted 19th-century cotton mill, the Brookstown Inn in Winston-Salem. Just remember to use moderation: Bicycle crashes really hurt, too.
