Amanjena is where a latter-day sultan would stash his concubines and escape for the weekend: Set in the palm-studded outskirts of Marrakesh, it has fantastical Moorish columns and archways, clay-colored villas with sexy bedrooms, and pools lined with flickering lanterns. Summer sees a dissipation of vacationers as well as cool, evening air—the perfect season for a private dinner in a desert tent. Imagine yourself walking down a candlelit path to a huge, canopied tent at the foot of the sand dunes, the Atlas Mountains in the distance. As you step inside, you are showered in rose petals (really) and handed a glass of Champagne, while a trio of Moroccan musicians cues up their strings and cymbals. Then the food arrives: platter after platter of spicy beef, grilled fish, and fresh Mediterranean vegetables. As you recline on the plush floor pillows, the belly dancers make their entrance.
