Alaska Sailing Charters

The best time to see a glacier is in the summer. And the best way to see it is from a 49-foot sailboat with a glass of white wine in one hand and a plate of fresh dungeness crab in the other. In other words, the Alaskan wild can also be spectacularly civilized—especially on the Kirsten Anne, a gorgeous vessel with three bedrooms that will sleep six people comfortably or two people really comfortably. By day, the captain will take you anywhere you choose, though typically around Alaska's southeastern archipelago. Stop at your whim to kayak with sea otters, watch humpback whales at feeding time, or hike inland to natural hot springs (where clothing is optional but discouraged). By night, the chef (but of course there's a chef!) will serve up fresh oysters followed by wild king salmon and vegetables. Then it's time to retire to your private cabin, as you hear waves gently lap at the boat and whales sing in the distance.
