Romantic Travel Spots Off the Beaten Path

by Amy Plitt

It's easy to imagine that you've time-traveled to old New York while wandering around this picturesque enclave. Designated a historic district in 1969, the neighborhood epitomizes brownstone Brooklyn, thanks to quiet blocks lined with 19th-century homes in a variety of architectural styles that will make you feel totally removed from the hustle of the city just across the river (and in nearby, busier BK districts). It also helps that several streets, including Cheever Place and Verandah Place, are tiny, dead-end blocks—perfect for ducking down to steal a kiss. From Atlantic Ave to DeGraw St between Court and Hicks Sts, Brooklyn, NY.
