The ceilings at the Standard NYC

Guess it's not surprising that a guy who obsesses over lightbulb filaments would go so far as to spruce up the ceilings of his latest hotel (though for the record, it's actually tropical tambour wood, not spruce). The slats that line the walls of André Balazs' new 337-room, $200-million Standard NYC creep upward for an effect that's a warm, welcome contrast to the building's chilly—if sleek—exterior.
