Springs Fever

Albert Frey
In 1939, Swiss-born architect Albert Frey relocated to the desert and defined Palm Springs modernism. Landmarks like City Hall (1957) and his own glass and metal home (1963) are icons of the era. Frey House II is currently closed to the public, but you can sample his style by checking in to the Movie Colony Hotel, above, his refurbished 17-room gem with poolside barbecue pit.
