Out-of-this-World Spas

Aman Spa at Amangiri, Canyon Point, Utah

What: A 25,000-square-foot temple of relaxation in Aman's latest, in a mesa-studded western-movie landscape.

The look: If it's not water, wood, or stone, you won't find it here. Saunas have windows to let in the crystalline desert light; smooth stone walkways beside reflecting pools lead to walnut-paneled treatment rooms.

Who goes: Deep-pocketed sybarites and celebrities who don't want to be seen.

The treatment: A straight-up 90-minute massage by local Navajo Glenda rocketed us to a kinder, stress-free dimension. She incorporates Native American energy balancing, and her hands are magical.

P.S.: With the permission of tribal elders, Glenda created four two-and-a-half-hour Spa Journeys, with smudging, massage, and other healing arts (massages, $150).
