Code of Ethics
In keeping with Condé Nast Traveler's policy of Truth in Travel, I travel anonymously and pay the same rates the general public does both on assignment and on personal trips. Total independence from the travel industry enables me to experience travel as you would and to report on it freely, fairly, and honestly, with no conflict of interest or ulterior motive. I do not accept gifts from sources or own stock in any travel company. I purposefully endorse no products and sit on no boards. I refuse payment for giving speeches to travel entities (although the entity may cover my transportation and accommodation expenses). I pick up the check when dining with travel-industry spokespeople and do not attend shows or entertainment events as their guest. I almost always fly in coach and stay in the lowest-category rooms in hotels. Glamorous? No. But it keeps me honest.
