Well-to-do couples flock to this sexy Tahitian all-inclusive for its barefoot elegance and laid-back attitude. The 40-acre resort offers three degrees of seclusion: rustic Gauguin cottages with private plunge pools, the more romantic thatched-roof huts on the beach, and traditional hotel-style units in a two-story building. All 70 rooms have whitewashed walls, cathedral ceilings, wicker furnishings, local and imported art, and terra-cotta tile floors. The two Euro-style restaurants, Gauguin and Seagrape, are among the best on the island (try the peppered flank steak with horseradish mash and cornmeal-crusted butterfish at Seagrape). Teepee Bar on the beach is a great place to sip a piña colada while watching the sunset, and the surrounding bird sanctuary has trails for peaceful walks.
