Concierge.com's insider take:
Britain's main naval base during the Napoleonic wars is now the world's only remaining Georgian shipyard and Antigua's biggest tourist attraction. Named Nelson's Dockyard after Admiral Horatio Nelson, who was stationed here in 1784, it's the historic heart of Antigua, the site of the island's annual Sailing Week regatta, and a national park. Don't waste time on the tacky souvenir shops and fast-food stands. There's a collection of nine finely restored buildings to be explored, plus additional points of interest and nature trails. The Dockyard Museum, formerly Nelson's residence, displays his charts, maps, regatta trophies, and telescope (268-460-1379; www.antiguamuseums.org).
