Porthole Bar & Restaurant, Port Elizabeth

Concierge.com's insider take:
This informal restaurant serves simple local favorites, including an expert version of roti, the stuffed, rolled, East Indian snack similar to a burrito. In fact, the Porthole serves burritos as wellthe only place on the island to do so. Located directly on the beach, the restaurant is housed in a store that dates from the era of the slave trade and is owned by local Noeline Taylor. She describes her cooking style as "descended from her mother," which means additional specialties such as conch souse, grilled lobster, and curried chicken. There are three-course set evening menus as well as a hearty breakfast.
