Concierge.com's insider take:
The classic 1885 "Pink Palace" is a favorite with business travelers and visiting celebs—mostly for its marble lobbies, ornate ballrooms, and gilded chandeliers, but also for its location near downtown Hamilton's restaurants, bars, and shopping. Of the 410 rooms, the ones to book are those in the Bermudiana House, which were renovated in 2008 and decorated in shades of lemon yellow and preppy green, with chipper island paintings by local artist Sheilagh Head, and an updated colonial feel. Throughout the hotel, however, the furnishings are high-end but mass-produced, lending the whole place something of a corporate air. But whimsical historic touches remain, like the fabulous Japanese koi pond (ask for fish food at the front desk) and the lavish lounge reserved for guests in Fairmont Gold rooms. This room, where breakfast, tea, and drinks are served, resembles a monarch's sitting room—Queen Elizabeth herself is a repeat visitor—with Wedgwood-inspired frescoes, silk drapes, and damask wing chairs where guests sip afternoon tea or sherry. The hotel is not on the beach, but you can hop a ferry for the 20-minute ride to its sister property in Southampton.
