Concierge.com's insider take:
Though billed as a brand-new property, Newstead is actually an older cottage community that was demolished and reopened in April 2008 as an all-suite boutique hotel. The 45 rooms, including two of the original cottages, look right over Hamilton Harbor, and all have either a full or half kitchen and separate sitting areas (some rooms are laid out loft-style, others have proper rooms). The location at Newstead is unbelievably convenient—you're a short hotel shuttle ride to South Shore and all its beaches and golf courses, and a five-minute public ferry ride to Hamilton itself, making shopping and dining a snap (taxis on the island are expensive and slow). The hotel also has its own yacht, letting you set your own schedule. Some elements still need to be adjusted—for example, the lack of room service—but the attentive, spot-on concierge staff knows how to get things done, whether it be amusing younger guests with the pet goldfish or stocking the refrigerator before arrival. The decor is almost urban, with tech touches including flat-screen TVs and in-room Wi-Fi (a rarity in Bermuda); the stainless-steel kitchens with teak cabinets and the minimalist gray and taupe rooms may make you pine for a bit of Bermudian madras and pastel. Then again, modern comforts have their own appeal, especially when you're sliding into a deep soaking tub with whirlpool jets and a view of the glittering harbor.
