The Cordillera Septentrional mountain range in northern DR is a mecca for the adventurous (um, crazy?) folks who dig the sport of canyoning—which involves hiking up, then rappelling down steep cliffs and through rushing waterfalls up to 100 feet high. Iguana Mama runs half-day and full-day canyoning trips from Cabarete of varying degrees of difficulty (if you're a scaredy-cat, avoid the excursion known as "Big Bastard").
