Concierge.com's insider take:
The newest and perhaps most stylish of the Fiji private-island resorts, this collection of 16 villas nestled in lush vegetation on the side of a hill is both native and sleek. Interiors have mahogany floors, sea-grass ceilings, and recessed lighting worthy of a restaurant in New York's SoHo. You get your choice of staying connected (there are phones and data ports on the desks) or dropping out: every villa has an infinity pool overlooking the sapphire lagoon, and the island itself, thick with vegetation, sits on a living reef. The food is sophisticated Pacific Rim, with local ingredients and artful presentation. The place brings downtown chic to the South Pacific (and even provides a specific package for couples sneaking away to elope).
From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:A 40-minute helicopter ride from Nadi, Royal Davui is one of the Fijian archipelago's tinier islands (just eight acres at high tide). Each of the 16 multilevel vales, or villas, has two outdoor decks, a bathroom ceiling that can be electronically opened, and a stone plunge pool. Lush paths wind past white sand beaches and among the restaurant, bar, library, and 60-foot pool. Water toys include powerboats, kayaks, and, for those wanting to dive the magnificent Beqa Lagoon, scuba gear (instruction available). There are other treatsthe sand quay picnic is a mustbut the real triumph is the 50-plus staff, whose sole aim is to treat everyone royally. 2006 Hot List
