Multitasking Scottish (but Florence-based) restaurant and hotel entrepreneur David Gardner opened this elegant contemporary diner on the south bank of the Arno in 1999. After initial success it went into a period of decline, but a change of guard and approach in 2006 has put it back on track. Don't be put off by the slick urban decor: The food is excellent, creative without frivolity. The tortelli with pumpkin and Parmesan and the roast monkfish on a bed of potatoes and scallions are highlights. Service has improved no end, while the original wine list spotlights some worthwhile smaller producers.
Closed Sundays. Open dinner only November through March, lunch and dinner April through October.
