Two upmarket malls on Buchanan Street, the main shopping drag (mostly pedestrianized) that cuts through the city center, should be on your shopping list. Buchanan Galleries houses both chain stores and small independent shops (220 Buchanan St.; 44-141-333-9898). Farther down the same street, the more upmarket Princes Square mall has great shops and excellent bars, restaurants, and cafés. The decor is heavily influenced by the architectural style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (48 Buchanan St.; 44-141-221-0324).

This central neighborhood has lots of funky little shops, cafés, and bars. It's also where you'll find the Italian Centre (7 John St.), the place to go for a good cappuccino and Italian labels such as Gucci and Versace. Within the center, Cruise is a one-stop upmarket label destination selling mens- and womenswear, as well kids' clothing for their style-conscious offspring. Big names on offer here include McQ (a side brand of Alexander McQueen's), Gucci, Prada, and Christian Dior (180-188 Ingram St.; 44-141-572-3232; www.cruiseclothing.co.uk). Cruise Jeans is nearby at 223 Ingram Street (44-141-229-0000).

A lovely name for a lovely shop selling all manner of vintage clothing, from Charleston dresses and '50s cardigans to tweed jackets, kilts, and even a Victorian Lord Lieutenant's uniform. The prices are pretty reasonable too, making it a favorite of students looking for a glam party outfit.
Closed Sundays.
