What started out as a little zine is now a store that sells anime comics and toys for grown-ups; art and design books from Yoshitomo Nara, Takashi Murakami, and director Wong Kar-Wai; graphic-emblazoned totes; and other odds and ends for in-the-know nerds. When the flagship started spilling over with merchandise a couple of years ago, the owners opened the more minimalist GR2 across the street, providing a gallery space for local and Japanese artists, with a heavy dose of comic book illustrations and Eastern-influenced Pop art. The Giant Robot brand has also exploded into the food world with the nearby restaurant GR/Eats, a quirky pan-ethnic café that serves up seared tuna salad, angus burgers, and paella.
Open Mondays through Saturdays 11:30 am to 8 pm, Sundays noon to 6 pm.
