Fabrica La Aurora, San Miguel de Allende

Calzada de la Aurora
San Miguel de Allende
Tel: 52 415 154 5409's insider take:

Artists' studios and galleries fill the multiple wings and outbuildings at this former cotton mill (once one of San Miguel's largest industries). Allow a couple of hours to fully explore nearly 50 galleries and shops showcasing fine paintings and drawings by well-known contemporary artists as well as San Miguel's many celebrated artists. Don't miss Made by Anado, where Anado McLauchlin displays his playful altars, beaded jewelry, and mirrors framed with milagros. Elena Brown Guiness has a good selection of Latin American art. Artists are hard at work in several large studios, and some offer classes. You'll also find bookstores and home-accessory stores here, as well as a pretty coffee shop on a patio. Most artists are on site on Thursdays; some shops and galleries are closed on Sundays.—Maribeth Mellin
