Nantucket Looms, Nantucket Town

16 Federal Street
Nantucket , Massachusetts
Tel: 508 228 1908's insider take:

Established in 1968 as a weaving collective, Nantucket Looms still produces unique, handloomed blankets and throws in its second-floor studio. The shop on the first floor has an array of these for sale, all made from natural fibers like cashmere and linen. Other island artists also sell their wares here, including paintings, jewelry, furniture, wildflower soap, and sophisticated knickknacks, most with a nautical theme. Jackie Onassis made it a point to drop in every time she visited the island in the 1970s (the store would obligingly close while she shopped.) If you overhear locals grumbling about Nantucket Looms's move from its former prime spot on Main Street, it's because the shop was displaced by a certain fashion designer (initials R.L.) peddling high-end preppy styles.

Open Mondays through Saturdays.
