Concierge.com's insider take:
If you go to one clothing boutique in Portland, this should be it. Francis May, a joint venture between Connie Codding and granddaughter Pamela Baker-Miller, embodies a distinctly Portland brand of understated cool. Local classics like Pendleton wool shirts and blazers hang alongside designs from independent up-and-comers. Look for floral Samantha Pleet rompers, tribal Mociun dresses, and ruffled Church & State frocks as well as heavy industrial necklaces and geode rings. Menswear includes brogue boots by Rachel Comey, A.P.C. parkas, and Rag & Bone checked shirts. Everything is cleanly arranged on vintage industrial racks or in steamer trunks, and there are some woodsy design touches, such as buffalo plaid curtains in the dressing rooms.—Colleen Clark
