Concierge.com's insider take:
You're not in Foot Locker anymore. When it opened in May 2007, this sneaker shop brought an urban, indy element to Walnut Street's stretch of predictable retailers (Club Monaco, Cole Haan, and the rest). The front room—a black-and-white space that's more art gallery than shoe shop—is a sneaker buff's paradise. The dapper staff happily expounds on each pair's rarity, color palette significance, release date, and value, so you know whether you're buying for the street or the safe-deposit box. Among the options are Nike Dunks (the current hipster sneaker of choice), retro Re-Runs (colorful, chunky-soled reissues from the 1970s), as well as limited editions and prototypes. The back room, like a gentleman's boudoir with a carved wood fireplace, is stocked with Stussy Deluxe and aNYthing brand T-shirts and hoodies. Ascend the intricately carved wood staircase—lent some street cred by the cartoonish graphic art on the walls—to the second floor, which is devoted to Vans, from high-top Chukka Boots to Velcro-strapped Prison Issue. To impress your sneakerhead friends, walk out with snakeskin-print high-top pumps (there are only 48 pairs of these Reebok-Ubiq collaborations in existence).
Open Mondays and Tuesdays 11 am to 7:30 pm, Wednesdays through Saturdays 11 am to 8 pm, Sundays noon to 6 pm.
