This is one of those places where everybody seems to have got it right. From the early-20th-century building in the Old Port area to the "just-right" number of rooms (60) and the lobby's large fireplace and oversized sofas. Then there's the little stuff like gratis Wi-Fi, free self-serve cappuccino and espresso, and the price-included continental breakfast—fresh-squeezed juice, rabbit pâté, croissants, and coffee. Lastly, the hotel's service is unfailingly gracious. You'll get smiles from all the staff, and turndown service includes chocolates and cards with the weather forecast for the next day.

Although "not in the crush of the tourist area," this former headquarters of a fish and fruit company allows guests to "easily walk to city sights." Rooms, with bathrooms in brushed chrome and frosted glass, are "charming and stylishly elegant without being fussy." There's only breakfast on the premises, but the hotel is "close to many restaurants, from expensive to casual."
