This is one of those places where everybody seems to have got it right. From the early-20th-century building in the Old Port area to the "just-right" number of rooms (60) and the lobby's large fireplace and oversized sofas. Then there's the little stuff like gratis Wi-Fi, free self-serve cappuccino and espresso, and the price-included continental breakfast—fresh-squeezed juice, rabbit pâté, croissants, and coffee. Lastly, the hotel's service is unfailingly gracious. You'll get smiles from all the staff, and turndown service includes chocolates and cards with the weather forecast for the next day.

This Bauhaus hotel unites a former fish and fruit market—the city's first skyscraper—and an adjacent building. Blending iron and glass with wood and stone, "they're old buildings with sophisticated architecture," hence the perfect design score. Rooms are "large, with high ceilings," dark-brown furniture, and white walls. There is no restaurant on-site, but anticipate "a quality continental breakfast." Reception staff are "welcoming and helpful."
