It's unclear how much sleeping actually happens at the Tom Beach Hotel, owned by Le Ti's Thierry de Badereau and home to La Plage. By day, you can dine with your feet in the sand at the restaurant on St. Jean beach, but after sunset, it becomes more of a scene, starting out as a laid-back lounge and, on most nights, escalating into full-on dancing, with DJs who fly in from all over the world. The December and January high season bring wild theme nights and the most raucous crowds. If you aren't into the scene here, pop over to Nikki Beach, also on St. Jean.—Cathay Che

Open Tuesdays through Sundays noon to 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm to midnight.

Le Select
Boulevard de Main
Gustavia
St. Barths
Tel: 590 590 27 86 87

The disputed inspiration for Jimmy Buffett's "Cheeseburger in Paradise," Le Select is a local legend in the heart of Gustavia, going strong for more than half a century. The kind of place for a casual beer, cocktail, and, yes, burger, with a roadhouse feel and shaded outdoor seating; perfect for people-watching.

Open Mondays through Saturdays 10 am to 11 pm.

Le Ti St. Barth
Pointe Milou
St. Barths

Brace yourself for a rowdy night: This bordello-styled nightspot embodies every drop of the fabulous decadence raging on the island. Reserve a table for dinner as far as possible in advance (especially for weekends)—by midnight there'll be dancing on the tabletops. There are also "fashion shows," the procession of girls modeling ever more skimpy outfits from Le Ti's on-site boutique of swimwear and fluffy lingerie. Simone de Beauvoir is turning in her grave.

Open nightly except Sundays. Closed September through late October.

It's easy to dismiss the Nikki Beach clubs. Yes, they have a Hard Rock Cafe–like presence with locations in practically every world party capitol (Miami, Marbella, Marrakesh, St. Tropez), but there's really no better place to spend Sunday afternoon on St. Barths. The location directly on the sands of St. Jean beach attracts a fair share of 40-somethings from the yachts parked out front, who mix with the sexy young things and even some families. The ritual is to order a magnum of rosé and maybe some nibbles to keep you nourished while spending the day popping in and out of the water and dancing on the sand to the thumping beats of the live DJ. (Even if you stay seated at your table, rest assured that your neighbors are probably dancing on theirs.) Casa Nikki, their supper club in Gustavia, tries to deliver a nightclub version of this scene, but it's nowhere near as fun.—Cathay Che

Open daily 11 am to midnight.

Yacht Club
Rue Jeanne d'Arc
Gustavia
St. Barths
Tel: 590 590 27 86 39

St. Barths' own little corner of Ibiza, the Yacht Club is not nearly as fastidious as the name implies. Less blazers and martinis, more thumping house music and intemperate dancing, usually with a crew of leggy damsels. Free entry is a plus, though the door policy tightens during high season, so reservations are essential.

Closed Sundays except in high season.
