Concordia Eco-Resort, set on 20 hillside acres abutting Virgin Islands National Park on the south side of St. John, appeals to active, eco-conscious couples and families in search of more solitude than can be found in busy Maho Bay (where sister property Harmony Studios is located). There are 25 wood-framed, canvas-walled tents equipped with composting toilets, solar-heated showers, basic kitchenettes with gas-fired burners, and space for six guests. For creature comforts that come closer to condo-style, opt for one of the newer studios, each of which accommodates four guests with queen-size beds and a sleeper sofa in the living room, standard toilets and showers in the bathrooms, and kitchens with electric stoves and coffeemakers. The best breezes and vistas—on a clear day you can drink in the British Virgin Islands all the way to Virgin Gorda—are to be found at the most easterly tents. The property also has a freshwater swimming pool and, in season (late November through early July), a range of activities such as art classes, yoga sessions, and a full-service restaurant serving Caribbean-inspired fare such as conch fritters and coconut-encrusted mahi mahi. Salt Pond Bay is an easy ten-minute walk away on a trail that skirts a Danish-era tomb and crumbling plantation buildings.
