"Gorgeous views and lots of colorful flower beds" are hallmarks of this metal-roofed resort "central to the action." "Crisp and stylish suites" are equipped with fireplaces, kitchens, and Aveda products. Expect a ski valet, a heated outdoor saltwater lap pool, and two hot tubs. At Pacific Lounge, the breakfast buffet is "more than a juice and muffin carbohydrate load."

Despite its name, Pan Pacific's second Whistler iteration is far enough from the din of the village to feel like a retreat, yet close enough to the après-ski action. Smartly appointed apartment-style suites feature kitchenettes and plenty of dark wood, while gas fireplaces and down duvets add a dose of alpine coziness. The bar does double duty as a restaurant—offering up the same uninspiring dinner menu as room service—but this isn't a big deal considering how many other restaurants are close by. The hotel's greatest attribute is the ski valet at the Pan Pacific Mountainside—the Village Centre's busier sibling at the gondola base—where guests can stash their gear. —2006 Hot List
