Concierge.com's insider take:
The Fairmont may have come first, but it's no shock that its main luxury rival is the Four Seasons, which opened to rave reviews in 2005. Four Seasons veterans will recognize the zealous service, but newcomers to the chain who are here just for the snow might be taken aback. (Use your "Privacy Please" door hanger if you don't want staffers checking on your well-being every two hours.) The hotel has 273 rooms, all with fireplaces and balconies—and even the smallest feels pretty darn big at more than 500 square feet. Guests can reach either mountain via shuttle bus, but it's a mere four-minute walk to Blackcomb's base, where the hotel posts a top-flight ski concierge to store your equipment and lend advice on the best runs. When the ski day is done, head to Fifty Two 80 Bistro, where chef Scott Dolbee celebrates his Californian roots with dishes based around locally sourced ingredients. His seared sablefish, with open-faced oxtail ravioli, butternut squash, and sorrel julienne, is a novel treat.
