Vodvil, Los Angeles

By Conde Nast Traveler Friday, July 29 07:00 AM

It's game on for Vodvil, L.A.'s newest adult entertainment venue. But before you grab that pile of $1 bills, you should know that this adult entertainment comes with a PG rating. And prizes.

Vodvil is like game night for the stiletto set, with trivia, game show-style challenges, charades, and other classic fun. Tables play against each other for prizes such as penny candy or donations to charities. The look is haute-1960s rec room, with lemon, lime, and orange retro furniture. The menu includes pretzel bites, chips with onion dip, and bowls of punch (try the No Whammies with whiskey, elderflower liqueur, and lemon juice). Add the private karaoke rooms, and it's pretty much the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Hotel Lone, Rovinj, Croatia

By Conde Nast Traveler Thursday, July 28 07:00 AM

On the scale of enjoyable to soul-crushing, the typical conference hotel ranks right up there with daylong PowerPoint presentations. Until now: The new Hotel Lone, Design Hotel's first property in Croatia, is a business hotel even leisure travelers can get into.

Five minutes on foot from the beach and a ten-minute walk to the Adriatic resort town of Rovinj, the Lone looks like a cruise ship, its Y-shaped white building rising out of the Zlatni Rt pine forests. Deck chairs and wood-paneled room terraces lend the property a resort vibe, and each of the 253 accommodations has views of the sparkling sea. Inside, it's airy and minimalist, with a light-drenched central atrium decked in sandy stone and sharp-angled settees. Even if you're not there for work, don't forget your suit: The in-house spa with pool and three saunas (Finnish, Swedish, salt) requested a meeting.

Black + Blum Lunch Pot

By Conde Nast Traveler Wednesday, July 27 07:00 AM

You can't take the prospect of another cardboard slice of Sbarro airport pizza, and those overpriced snack boxes the airlines peddle won't cut it, either. So you've decided to take matters into your own hands. Good news, hungry traveler: Now there's a container that can help you BYO food for your flight in style.

Black + Blum's Lunch Pot is a stylish riff on a tiffin, in the form of two BPA-free containers and a matching spork that snap together for hassle- and spill-free transport of your snacks. The in-flight entertainment of making your seatmates jealous is part of the package, too.

Available in black with red trim, white with orange, or white with lime, $22.

Quimby's At 19th Food Cart Pod, Portland, Oregon

By Conde Nast Traveler Tuesday, July 26 10:17 AM

Don't get us wrong. We love the food truck trend and scoring tasty, creative fare for less than a tenner. Eating on the run? Not so much. That's why we're excited to take a seat at Quimby's, Portland's newest pod of food carts (1502 N.W. 19th Avenue).

Simple black-leather booths and exposed brick walls give this renovated bar a no-nonsense, neighborhood-y feel. The food trucks that congregate outside dish up everything from Thai curries and chili cheese fries to overstuffed artisanal omelets and rustic smoked-meat sandwiches--all of which pairs nicely with the range of local microbrews on tap. Bring your food inside, pull up a chair, and order a cold one (minus the brown bag).

The Nolitan, New York City

By Conde Nast Traveler Monday, July 25 09:55 AM

Soho, Noho, Tribeca, FiDi--New Yorkers define themselves by their neighborhoods. Now visitors can, too, as downtown creative pocket Nolita gets its first luxury hotel, the Nolitan.

The 55-room property aims for a full-service-apartment vibe. Before check-in, you can request a fridge full of organic spritzers, hypoallergenic pillows on the bed, or even a new outfit for Poochie. Rooms are decked out in light oak floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and mod furnishings to create a warm, loftlike feel. When you're ready to roam (nearby Young Designer's Market and boutiques like John Varvatos and Selima Optique are offering neighborly discounts), a complimentary bike or skateboard will be waiting.

Down in the lobby salon, Phaidon has curated a library, and a 2,400-square-foot roof deck just begs for having friends over for cocktails. No worries if the party goes late: 2 pm checkout comes standard. Time to call U-Haul; move-in starts August 1.
