The Palms claims to bring a new level of luxury to an island already chock-full of top-shelf resorts. And despite teething problems (a 40-minute wait for check-in, a leaky air-conditioner), it delivers. The 72 roomsmarble floors support custom-made mahogany furnitureare housed in five buildings that form a semicircle around an infinity pool. And what a pool: serpentine, bordered by circular beds, and with a swim-up bar and restaurant. More formal is Parallel 23, where Le Bernardin refugee Jasper Schneider does justice to both East (vindaloo lamb with raita) and West (seared dry-aged New York steak). Indulgence reaches its zenith at the 15,000-square-foot spa. Pre-programmed iPods dispensed to guests contain tunes for all ages.
