This family-run 22-suite gem in a stunningly renovated Belle Epoque building on a quiet street in central Zurich breathes intelligent luxury. Upon arrival, you are received by a young, earnest, multilingual staff at an antique desk; treated to champagne, coffee, or tea; and swiftly escorted to a handsomely decorated suite, which includes a spacious living room with dining area, a whirlpool tub, and a bedroom with mountainous goosedown duvets. Two flat-screen TVs, potted orchids, contemporary Italian furniture, antiques, and a soothing backdrop of celadon, mocha, powder blue, and vanilla make this a homey, happy place to roost. The only shortcoming is literally so: The beds are stubby, so your feet will dangle if you're taller than six feet.
When to go: Zurich is one of the world's loveliest winter destinations.
Which room to book: Garden-view suites are quietest; 4C has a corner cupola and offers a glimpse of Lake Zurich
