Created from a former parking garage, the 142-room Park Hyatt gives its plush international brand of luxury an edge with pedigreed contemporary art. Rooms are shrewdly designed, with peek-a-boo wooden shutters between bedroom and bath, huge Bang & Olufsen TVs, CD/ DVD players, and wickedly comfortable beds with fluffy duvets. Noteworthy amenities include Onyx, a groovy lounge that slings perfectly mixed oversized cocktails; the Parkhaus, an open-kitchen restaurant with an easy-to-love grill menu; and a well-equipped health club with a sauna and a steam room. In the could-do-better department, the service is impersonal and the place is surprisingly noisyservice trolleys rattle down the halls and the pipes announce themselves.
