Located in the Condesa district, Mexico City's neighborhood of the moment, the 40-room Condesa is that rarest of breeds: a happening hot spot with dead-quiet accommodations. Past the minimalist lobby, visitors enter a triangular courtyard restaurant where chic locals of all ages congregate; the scene continues at the rooftop sushi bar, and in-room iPods move the groove seamlessly from bar to bedroom. However, those in need of their beauty sleep can retreat behind not one but two sets of doors, and the courtyard's architecturally striking shutters can be closed to complete the cocoon effect. Rooms, though small, have extra-comfy beds, along with such indigenous design details as alpaca-wool throws, stone floors, and turquoise accents. Powerful rainfall showerheads erase the grime of this urban jungle, although single-ounce Malin and Goetz bath products are skimpy even by hotel standards.
When to go: November through February, when temperatures and smog levels are at their lowest.
Which room to book: Avoid those with courtyard balconies, which are windowless and receive no natural light when the balcony door is closed
